EU Research Infrastructure projects

Here you will find all information about Research Infrastructure projects under Framework Programme 7.

VULCAN

The VULCAN project was a European research project conducted in DK, UK, NL, ES, IT and HU which investigated the effects of climate change on the functioning of vulnerable European shrublands with the aims of providing a risk assessment and guidelines for European shrubland managers. It involved experimental manipulation of the climatic conditions at field scale and ran from 2001-2004.

CLIMAITE

CLIMAITE is a Danish research centre to investigate how climatic changes will affect biological processes and natural ecosystems. CLIMAITE is based on the climate changes predicted for Denmark in 2075. The idea is to manipulate the CO2 concentration, the temperature and the precipitation to simulate the climate predicted for Denmark in 70 years time.

CLIMMANI

ClimMani is a Research Networking Programme under the European Science Foundation (ESF). ClimMani involves at present 14 European countries and links more than 50 climate change related field scale experiments. ClimMani is networking with similar experiments and activities in US and Australia. ClimMani aims to provide an umbrella for coordinated activities bringing together researchers, data and knowledge from past and ongoing European climate manipulation research projects in order to synthesise the knowledge and improve ecosystem models.

ExpeER

ExpeER is a major European Infrastructure project (2010-2014) in the field of Ecosystem Research. ExpeER will, for the first time, federate existing national infrastructures, improve their research capacity whilst at the same time facilitating access to those key experimental and observational platforms as well as analytical and modelling facilities for the benefit of the international research community.

TERACC

Terrestrial Ecosystem Response to Atmospheric and Climate Change. USA co-ordinated network of ecosystem studies in relation to global change.

INTERACT

INTERACT is an infrastructure project under the auspices of SCANNET, a circumarctic network of 33 terrestrial field bases in northern Europe, Russia, US, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Scotland. INTERACT specifically seeks to build capacity for research and monitoring in the European Arctic and beyond, and is offering access to numerous research stations through the Transnational Access program.

INTERFACE

An Integrated Network for Terrestrial Ecosystem Research on Feedbacks to the Atmosphere and ClimatE: Linking experimentalists, ecosystem modelers, and Earth system modelers. The goal of the network is to bring together global change researchers working on terrestrial manipulative experiments with modelers working at the ecosystem and Earth system scale.

CARBO-Extreme

CARBO-Extreme aims to i) improve the understanding of the terrestrial carbon cycle in response to climate variability and extreme events, ii) represent and apply this knowledge over Europe with predictive terrestrial carbon cycle modelling, and iii) to interpret the model predictions in terms of vulnerability of the terrestrial – in particular soil–carbon pools under different scenarios and give advice to the European Commission and other stakeholders to support the development and implementation of climate, soil and ecosystem protection policies.

OCCAM

A joint project of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the University of Tennessee for the Program for Ecosystem Research of the Office of Science, U.S. Department of Energy. The project investigates community and ecosystem response to global change: interactive effects of atmospheric carbon dioxide, surface temperatures, and soil moisture.
